A rigorous and almost meditative approach is part of preparations for all concerts. Kote is passionately involved in selection of songs and ragas for his audience; be it a wedding ceremony, religious gathering, cultural academies or a concerts. An element of neo-classical tradition in his rendering is gaining grounds in what is now becoming popular as “Kote Shaili” (Kote Style). Pure devotion to lyrical melody forms the essence of “Kote Shaili” and he firmly believes that a singer must be passionate about the literature and lyrics of his music. He sings in four to five south Indian languages with ease and what began as a first concert in his native town, now has crossed Karnataka and reached Andra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Maharashtra.
Kote was born to Kote Vasantha Kumar and Parvathi Vasantha Kumar in Kalanja, Sullia Taluk near Mangalore. The serene green environs spread all over as a backdrop to the nostalgia of Yakshagana, culturally rich and learned atmosphere, literature, music and Vedas in his village groomed his cultural abilities and evolution as an artiste. Since his childhood, he has been involved in various cultural undertakings. He also had the opportunity to interact with many learned and well-known personalities in the field of performing arts, literature etc and made a deep influence on his moulding.
